Bas has been teaching piano with enthusiasm for about 30 years, his lessons are very varied.
Depending on what a student wants to learn, all lesson components are covered or just a few. For example, if you do not want to do reading exercises (method textbooks) but only want to be able to play well-known songs, then only that is worked on. Thanks to his flexible approach, this is done in a fun and educational way.
Yet Bas tries to get everyone enthusiastic about all lesson components. He gradually shows how versatile the piano actually is and most students will become more and more enthusiastic about this.
Bas accompanies the piano lessons on guitar. This way you quickly learn to play together and listen. And this way you also have less of the feeling that someone is constantly watching your fingers, which allows you to play more freely.
A repertoire is being worked on because it is great fun to be able to play something from memory for yourself and for others.
Bas adapts the pieces per student so that they can be played at any level and it remains a challenge for everyone.
The goal is to play more by ear and from musical feeling and to develop this. Bas also keeps an eye on whether the enthusiasm and motivation of the student remains present and whether there is a progressive line.
Aspects that can be discussed in the lesson:
- piano/keyboard as a solo instrument and as an accompanying instrument. (pop, latin, blues and jazz up to conservatory level, and classical music)
- improvisation, as fun exercises to be able to play more freely.
- solfege and harmony, to eventually be able to find and understand your own songs.
